I love this—for real—because I do it, too! It’s a boon for both of us and we are mistaken if we think the young and beautiful (whatever that means to you/them) are also confident. A compliment may be the most beautiful thing of all.

An Appreciator of All Things!Beautiful! The garden analogy is perfect, a beautiful garden makes us feel more alive and wonderful. It adds so much to our well-being without taking away, just like appreciation.

For many years I have tried to give out compliments and appreciations as often as I can. I also accept them as the gift they are when they are offered to me.

This is an amazing message that women, all humans really, need to hear time & again, thanks Val!

I’m curious if the content your readers want has changed since you wrote this post two years ago? It seems there has been a swell of women feeling more empowered around their appearance (albeit very slowly), wanting to know how to feel comfortable in their skin rather than the newest beauty trick. Or is this just hopeful thinking?

My grandmother colored her hair on her death bed at 100 years old to be sure the gray roots didn’t show. She also got a manicure. I think our societal view of what is youthful is never going to change and the pursuit of youth as power.

Val- You're a role model. I'm going to try just once to not look at a magnificent young girl without complimenting her. I can't find where to do the Ask Val so putting here and let me know if there is a better place because I have a heap of questions. First one is what can be done about sagging jawline and under part- the chicken waddle. I hate it and spend all day pulling it up behind my ears in the hopes it will stay there with my fingers. :)
