I have actually worn more makeup since the pandemic started than I ever have before because I spend so much time on Zoom, or sending video messages. Being a pale white woman with almost no visible eyebrows, video is... humbling without a little somethin'-somethin'. But having been a largely non-makeup-wearing woman for most of my life, I feel incredibly made up with a little under-eye concealer, some mascara and eyeliner, and my Boy Brow from Glossier, which I have come to LOVE. Any more than that and I just feel like a bad drag queen.

This post is so helpful! I've stopped wearing makeup at all during the pandemic, so it's a good time for me to rethink what I want to do going forward.

There's a photo of me as a college student putting on lipstick (fuschia, mind you...it was the 80s!) while wearing a sweatshirt and getting ready for an intramural volleyball game with friends. One of those friends took that photo of me (with an old fashioned camera with film that had to be developed) as a means to mock me, as she felt it was rather ridiculous that I felt the need to layer on lip color whenever I left the apartment let alone for a game. Looking back, I must agree. I mean, what did I think I was doing and for what reason? My mom didn't wear that much make-up and my group of friends absolutely did not wear make-up. It makes me wonder where I got the notion that make-up was necessary. Leaping to the present, 40 years later, I have a pretty light touch when it comes to make-up (boy-brow, concealer in certain spots, a light lipgloss) although I enjoy wearing a red lip though it typically lasts through one cup of tea before I wipe it all off. And for some odd reason, whenever I get a really short haircut, I feel spunky and want to wear the brightest lipstick ever.
