Reminds me of how my grandmother tells my mother, “you don’t have rosacea, you just have good color!” (But in Spanish)

Confession: I've always envied my friend with rosacea. I think it makes her look very alive, like she's just gone out for a long, wintry run. My face always strikes me as wan and boring compared to her flush.

I guess to me the grass is greener where the cheeks are pinker. :)

Love this post, packed with so much helpful info. Rather ironic that so many healthy foods we love are on the list of vasodilators that can aggravate rosacea: beets, leafy greens, ginger, citrus fruits, berries, salmon, walnuts, etc. Everything in moderation, I suppose. I’m sure alcohol and caffeine are far worse.

I shared your info on topicals for rosacea with a friend who is a flight attendant on private jets. Since he is literally “up in the air” so much of the time, I can’t help thinking that constant exposure to dry air while flying combined with the stress of repeated adjustments to different time zones play a role in his flare-ups. Hopefully he’ll find Waldorf’s and Lupo’s recommendations helpful.

I also wonder if the good doctors have thoughts about ocular rosacea. It seems that people who cope with skin rosacea can also develop the ocular kind. And vice versa. Last, thanks so much for helping us see the light about seeing red!

I,for one, love your suggestions for learning to love your face as it ages. I like the product reccomendations as much as the next person but it is your existential insight and circumspection about the beauty industry that keep me wanting more! Keep it coming :-)

I read more...my mother developed rosacea and I'd read that zinc supplement might take care of it and so suggested she try 50 mg. a day. After years of redness, which she found embarrassing--it worked. Can't hurt, take it with calcium, and it's also good for aging eyes and...especially in times of stress! When you are injured, the zinc in your body...races to the site. It will also get rid f those little white dots in your nail bed--a sure sign of stress or zinc deficiency!

Osteo runs in my family...and I have it too! Unlike tony...I take collagen pills daily and though the doctor tells me it is quite advanced in my knees--I have little to no pain most of the time. I also get shots annually make from my own platelets which work pretty well. there is a synthetic version that Medicare covers, but it doesn't work as well as your own platelets....go figure. It if keeps me from a knee replacement--actually two--that will save me and the government like what? $40,000? It' nuts but that's the way it is.

Osteoporosis. Did I spell that right? I think one answer is to be very careful to let the men in your life do all the heavy lifting. Drink more milk? You know what to do. When I was young I used to life 100 lb bags without a lot of difficulty. Now I find 40 lbs heavy, but I do it. Bird seed, mostly. Anyway, take care. More than that I have no answers.
