I was eyeballing a similar product just this morning--honey candies in a vintage jar. I thought of what magical transformation the jar would have on my whole environs. Would it suddenly convert my messy kitchen into a plain, white one, warmed by an Aga stove, by which I sat, contentedly drinking tea and sucking honey drops? But then I remembered how many times I've spiro-spero'd my way into buying something and then felt an actual DISMAY at the mismatch b/t the way I actually live and the way the product whispered I might live... if only I had it. Sometimes, it's easier to hold onto the daydream and pass on the product. Nothing against CO Bigelow or honey drops!!

Wow, I nearly succumbed to the siren song of C.O. Bigelow with one look online! No wonder they've been in business so long. I wanted to swan dive right into a jar of lemon body cream! Ahhhhh... thank you for saving me by the end of the paragraph, Val. Whew.

My brow’s not flaky, but it sure was furrowed when I came upon Dum spiro spero. The meaning was right there as plain as the nose on my face! Dum spiro spero I continue to benefit from the wisdom in your column. Carpe di

This stuff sorts out my ("worst he's ever seen" said the derm) seborrheic dermatitis both on my scalp and my elbows. I have to get a new bottle once in a while but WOW does it help clear it up - "Lingon Emulsion 1"

Seborrheic dermatitis and I go way back, unfortunately.

Stress is a HUGE culprit, as is cold air, hot water, and dairy (for me).

R + Co makes a CBD scalp product called Super Garden that's nice, but the best treatments are rest, hydration (both internal and external), and a silk pillowcase.

Loved reading about your visit to CO Bigelow, a favorite destination whenever I’m meandering through the West Village, if only to stop in to say hello to the warm and welcoming staff behind the beauty counters.

I am especially mesmerized by the toothpaste aisle, all those delicious flavors and scents, and yes, the prettiest packaging. I do manage to resist, and stick to my mass market drugstore toothpaste. But I may occasionally splurge on the CO Bigelow No 012 Rose Salve. A half-ounce tube goes for around $8.00. I think a similarly-sized tube of Aquaphor is about half the price and many a dermatologist sing its praises. (I am a devotee too.)

But sometimes I can’t resist the delicate rosy tint of CO Bigelow’s offering and rose extract is said to have anti-irritant and conditioning properties. And of course, there’s the pretty packaging and fancy French name, Baume à la Rose.

Another small pleasure of shopping at this storied establishment: they are very generous with free samples. Happy 185th anniversary to CO Bigelow!
