A little over 10 years ago I saw a colleague's wife (who also worked where I worked) and thought to myself, "Hmmm...she looks a little different..." and I found out from her that she had a modest facelift. I was surprised how refreshed she looked but perhaps it was more due to her looking happier and more confident as a result of the procedure. Personally, like you, I'm not inclined to get any surgical procedures having had three surgeries for other physical issues and dealing with recovery. Yet, I must confess that when such procedures are done well, it looks rather nice.
I just discovered your website and man is it timely! I’ll be 70 this year and I am so aware of my aging face and neck and chest. I used to do Botox and fillers, but those needles hurt and I have decided to learn to accept this is what I look like now. And at some point, no amount of cosmetic anything is going to make you look young again! I think more than looking older, I’m just more aware of time passing and the aging process and how long I’ll be independent and not need assistance. Anyway, I’m glad I found your site and am enjoying (and relating) to your posts.
Bad baby is on fire? Why does this make me both laugh and feel horror simultaneously? Otherwise...I should have read this before I pestered you regarding what to do about my own lippy and marionette lines!
And...I love that you changed your photo to this one with the kewl glasses.
loved this. hate the lip lines. never taking off my mask!

Loved this column (and your good grand-baby). Hate my lip lines; scared to try any lasers tho! So those Cinique Chubby Sticks really don't bleed?
I think ALL New York Times articles should mention you, Val.
And this "Good Baby, Bad Baby" was one of your best, wisest Substacks ever.
My resting face seems to be permanent scowl. I don’t mean it to be. Corners of my mouth turn down instead of up! Bad baby ☹️
Keeping my eyes out for Bad Baby... 😅
Been using Botox and fillers but the results are so subtle I am not sure it is worth it. I just turned 70.😝
