During my recent stay in Japan, I had the pleasure of being awakened a couple of mornings by my granddaughter, M. We were on a girls’ trip with her mother, where we were required by the superb activities coordinator (my daughter-in-law) to arise early for breakfast. It was M’s duty to rouse me, a responsibility she seemed to relish. She stole into my room and lightly tapped the blanket near my face. “Grammie,” she whispered. “Grammie! Time to get up.” What a joy to see her face as soon as I opened my eyes.
“Good morning, Baby,” I said the first morning. “I’m a little groggy. I just need five minutes to meditate.”
“Fine,” said M agreeably, standing bedside, her hand still on the blanket. “I’ll wait here.”

Glorious readers! As HNTFUYF leans into its fourth year I’m thinking of ways to refresh a bit. And I’m wondering if we’d like to get a little more interactive.
Do you have a favorite cosmetic (a mascara, blush, tinted moisturizer) you love so much you want to share it with other HNTFUYF-ers?
Have you had an appearance experience that felt like an awakening? (Either positive or not.)
Please leave your answers in the comments section.
I’m beginning to see changes in my face that remind me more obviously I’m leaning into my 75th year; oddly, I’m surprised by them. Did I think I’d never look like an old person? Evidently I did. (I play a strong game of Denial.) The question remains, though, how to cope? I seem to be alternating between mirror meditation and obsessively examining before and after photos of deep plane facelifts.
And wouldn’t you know it, just after writing that last sentence I received an email from a PR firm about the “Glammy Makeover,” which claims more women in their 60s and 70s are signing up for “body-enhancing surgical procedures” like tummy tucks, liposuction, and breast lifts. Yikes! On trend!

You already know how important it is to wear sunscreen, rain or shine. But a curious reader wonders whether a tinted sunscreen is a better choice…
